Fire Safety Tips

  • Always have working smoke detectors in your home. Test them monthly and replace batteries as needed.
  • Create and practice a fire escape plan with your family. Know two ways out of every room.
  • Keep flammable materials away from heat sources, such as stoves, heaters, and fireplaces.
  • Never leave cooking unattended. Stay in the kitchen while cooking, especially when using high heat.
  • Learn how to use a fire extinguisher properly. Remember the PASS method: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children. Teach them about fire safety from a young age.
  • Ensure your home has adequate ventilation when using fireplaces or wood stoves.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain your home's electrical system to prevent electrical fires.
